When film maker Judith Helfand’s parents cover their Long
Island home with blue vinyl, she decides to find out just what
lies behind the seemingly benign façade of the world’s
second largest selling plastic.
Of course, Judith has a right to be suspicious – at 25 she
underwent a hysterectomy after contracting a rare form of cervical
cancer, traced to her mother’s taking of synthetic oestrogen
during pregnancy.
Equipped with a section of the offending material, Helfand, and
co-director Dan Gold embark on a vinyl odyssey. Unearthing a surprising
web of alleged corporate conspiracies and needless loss of life.
